Famous Scientist Resume
We are starting a short lesson on scientist biographies and resume writing. The students are assigned a famous scientist, say George Washington Carver for example, pretend that he is alive today and is trying to get a job with the US Department of Agriculture. The students fill out a resume, then send it off to prospective employers. The responses from Harvard, US Fish&Wildlife, or Sea World are great fun for all the students. Talk to your child about who they are researching, where they would likely send the resume to, and what contributions their scientist made to the world.

ALL MATH CLASSES- HOMEWORK PACKETS HANDED OUT TODAY!!
All math classes worked out of the pre-algebra book today. We talked about powers, exponents and bases. The main focus of the lesson was to show them that when we cube, square or whatever, we don't multiply the base by the exponent. Instead, we multiply the base by the base the number of times the exponent tells us to.
Science Etymology
In science today we worked on the etymology or "true meaning" of many common science terms. Of note were diarrhea, gastropod, and hippopotamus. We will continue working on this new skill tomorrow as we look at many of the science fields we will be discussing.
